Economic Development

The Chatham Conservative Voice supports a strong friendly business environment. Government should not hinder economic development in our county.

Why?

Studies show Chatham County losing $550 MILLION in retail sales because people shop in surrounding counties. This is $12 MILLION in lost sales tax revenue to the county.

Extra layers of government regulation hurt our economic situation. We continue to lose jobs and 55% of our workforce is commuting to other counties for work.

How?

We must let the Board of Commissioners know that we want more jobs and more business in the county.

Benefit?

Increased retail business and local jobs means increased revenues without tax increases. With more jobs in Chatham County, fewer people will be forced to commute for employment.

Supporting Schools

The Chatham Conservative Voice supports strong, accountable schools and increased choice for parents educating their children.

Why?

Today’s students are tomorrow’s citizens. School funding is the largest Chatham County budget item, over 40 pct of the total budget. Politicians, school administrators, and teachers all need to be accountable for the education of our children.

How?

We must let our government leaders know we place high priority on good schools, want more transparency and public input in school decisions, and support removing the limit on charter schools in North Carolina

Benefit?

Chatham county parents will have more influence and choice regarding their children’s education; and citizens will have more confidence in how well a large part of their tax dollars are being spent.

Protecting Our Money

The Chatham Conservative Voice opposes both the 1% Land Transfer tax on all real estate transactions and the out of control spending in our county.

Why?

There is currently a surplus of funds in the county treasury and the projected increases in revenue exceed projected expenses. The Chatham County Board of Commissioners (BOC) has the responsibility to manage and spend our hard earned money wisely.

How?

It is time for citizens to tell the Chatham County BOC to hold the line on out of control spending in government and to use our money responsibly.

Benefit?

The citizens of Chatham County will be able to handle more of their own money as they see fit instead of allowing the government to have more and more of it to spend.
